What is the correct tire pressure for a Fatbike?

You can find the correct tire pressure for your Fatbike on the sidewall. This is where the tire manufacturer specifies the range in which the pressure must fall. There is no single bar value that is right for every Fatbike, because tires differ in size and width. Stay within this range and check the pressure regularly.

Below, you can read where to find the specification, why low pressure is barely noticeable on an e-Fatbike, and which tires our Fatbikes have. At the very bottom, you will find models to compare.

Where can you find the correct tire pressure?

On the sidewall of the tire. According to the ADFC, this is where you can find the pressure range. Follow this range, not a value from a forum or from a friend's bike.

Look at the tire currently fitted to your Fatbike. If it has been replaced, the range for the new tire applies. The bicycle brand does not matter.

How many bar does a Fatbike need?

There is no single value that works for everyone. Even in our selection, the tires vary considerably. According to OUXI, the OUXI V8 Ultra and the OUXI GT-20 Pro roll on 20 x 4.0-inch tires, while the OUXI GT-24 has 24 x 4.0-inch tires. According to the manufacturer, the V20 Cross has tires in size 70/100-17, which are significantly narrower.

A table for narrow trekking tires therefore will not help you with a 4-inch-wide tire. The same applies to a 26-inch Fatbike: What matters is what is written on the sidewall of your tire.

Why low pressure is barely noticeable on an e-Fatbike

Without a motor, you notice a soft tire immediately because pedaling becomes harder. On an e-Fatbike, the motor compensates for this. The ADFC specifically points this out: The motor prevents you from noticing the increased rolling resistance.

The consequences remain, however. Low pressure drains energy from the battery, causes the tire to wear out faster, and makes it more susceptible to punctures.

The load also matters. According to the manufacturer, the OUXI V8 Ultra, the OUXI GT-24, and the V20 Cross are rated for loads of up to 150 kilograms. The heavier your load, the more important it is to check the sidewall before setting off, as well as the maximum load specified by the manufacturer for your model.

Is 3 bar too much?

That depends on the tire, not the bicycle. If 3 bar is above the maximum value on the sidewall, it is too much. If the value is within the specified range, it is suitable.

A 4-inch-wide Fatbike tire and a narrow tire can have completely different ranges. If you have several bikes, check each one individually.

How often should you check the pressure?

More often than most people do. According to the ADFC, many people top up the pressure too rarely and ride with too little air. The advice is to make a habit of checking the tire pressure regularly.

You cannot read a value with your thumb. A pump with a pressure gauge shows you the number, which you can compare with the sidewall. A good time to check is before a longer ride or before setting off with a heavy load.

Wide tires or narrow tires?

Our Fatbike selection also includes bikes with narrower tires, such as the V20 Cross with the aforementioned 70/100-17 tires.

This does not change the rule for tire pressure: Every tire has its own range on the sidewall. If you ride almost exclusively on asphalt, also take a look at the Skinny Bikes.
