Black Friday e-bike deals: look beyond the discount
You buy an e-bike for years. Even so, around Black Friday many people choose mainly on the size of the discount. That makes sense, but a bike that does not suit your rides ends up in the shed, however cheap it was. This page shows the electric bikes that are reduced right now, currently including models from ENGWE, ADO, JOBOBIKE, Heybike, Tomos and KNAAP. According to our product data they all have a 250 W motor that assists up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph), only while you pedal, and no throttle. The range changes during the promotion weeks. A model that is reduced today may be sold out tomorrow.
Which electric bike suits your rides?
Start with the wheel size, because it says a lot about how a bike rides. An e-bike with 28 inch wheels, such as the ADO Air 28, the JOBOBIKE Lyon Pro 2 or the Heybike Helio U, rolls easily over longer distances. If you ride the same route to work every day, that is usually the logical choice.
With 20 inch wheels it is a different story. Models like the ADO Air One, the JOBOBIKE Ace Pro and the Heybike Compact City are short and agile. Handy in a small bike store, in a lift or when several people share the bike. On the other hand they feel a little less settled at higher speeds. The wide 26 inch tyres on the ENGWE E26 add comfort on poor roads but make the bike heavier.
Torn between a high frame and a step-through? With a step-through you get on without swinging your leg over the saddle. Nice with a full bag or if you stop often. Around Black Friday both versions are often reduced side by side, so check which variant ends up in your basket.
Battery and weight: how to compare
The battery decides how often you charge. In this selection the batteries range, according to our product data, from 346 Wh on the ADO Air 28 to 768 Wh on the ENGWE E26. Look at the watt-hours, not just the volts or amp-hours. How far you really get depends on your weight, the wind, hills and the assistance level.
Weight matters if you have to carry the bike. The lightest models here, such as the Mapfour N1 Air, weigh around 16 kg. Models with wide tyres and suspension weigh more than 30 kg. If the bike has to go up a flight of stairs every day, you will feel the difference. If it lives in a ground-floor shed, a bigger battery often matters more than a few kilos less.
Black Friday electric bike deals: motor and suspension
Check on the product page where the motor sits. According to our product data the Tomos EB 24 and EB 25 have a Bosch mid-drive motor, while the Tomos EB 23 has a rear hub motor. A mid-drive works through the gears, which you notice most when pulling away and on hills. A hub motor is simpler.
Some models have a suspension fork, others have no suspension and are lighter as a result. On a smooth cycle path you hardly miss suspension. On cobbles or rough paths a suspension fork is pleasant.
Stuck between two models? Compare battery in Wh, weight, wheel size and frame type on the product pages. Then you already know before Black Friday which e-bike you want, and on the day you only need to order.
