Een vouwfiets die mee past in de camper

Je standplaats staat, de luifel is uit, en dan wil je eropuit zonder de auto los te koppelen. Daar is een vouwfiets voor. Vouw 'm op, schuif 'm achterin de camper, in de kofferbak van de caravan of zelfs binnen mee aan boord. Geen fietsendrager, geen gepiel met spanbanden. De vouwfietsen hier wegen vanaf rond de 16 kilo en klappen klein genoeg op om naast elkaar te passen. Merken als ENGWE, JOBOBIKE, ADO en Fiido, met 14 tot 20 inch wielen en trapondersteuning tot 25 km/u. Straatlegaal, geen rijbewijs nodig.

Compact opgevouwen, licht om te tillen

Ruimte is je grootste vijand op reis. Een vouwfiets met 14 of 16 inch wielen vouwt tot een pakket dat tussen de bagage past. Tilwerk telt ook: een model rond de 16 kilo til je nog met één hand de trede op, een zwaarder exemplaar van 22 kilo niet. Kijk dus naar twee getallen voordat je kiest: het opvouwformaat en het gewicht. Met de filters links zet je direct op lichtgewicht of op de kleinste wielmaat. Reis je met z'n tweeën, dan passen twee compacte vouwfietsen meestal naast elkaar in de garage van de camper.

Genoeg bereik voor een dag rond de camping

Op de camping rijd je geen lange tochten, je verkent de omgeving. Naar het dorp, het strand, de supermarkt, een rondje langs het meer. Daar is niet de grootste accu voor nodig. De meeste vouwfietsen hier halen ruim een dagtocht op één lading, en opladen doe je 's avonds op de standplaats in een paar uur. Wil je verder weg, kies dan een model met een grotere actieradius. Twijfel je tussen lage en hoge instap? Lage instap stap je makkelijker op met een tas boodschappen achterop.

Voor de camper, de caravan en de boot

Niet alleen camperaars rijden vouwfietsen. Caravanners schuiven 'm in de voortent of de auto, en op een boot is een fiets die klein opvouwt goud waard als je aanlegt. Hetzelfde idee, telkens: compact mee, snel uitgevouwen, klaar voor gebruik. Let bij een boot wel op vocht en zout, spoel de fiets na een trip even af. Voor de meeste reizigers is het bereik en het gewicht wat de keuze bepaalt, niet zozeer waar je 'm gebruikt.

Waar je op moet letten

Een vouwfiets is een compromis, en dat mag je weten. Kleine wielen rollen wat onrustiger over hobbelig terrein dan grote, en een opvouwbaar frame voelt minder stijf dan een vast frame. Voor ritjes rond de camping merk je daar weinig van, voor lange sportieve tochten kies je beter iets anders. Twee dingen maken in de praktijk het meeste verschil: hoe snel je 'm in- en uitvouwt, en hoeveel hij weegt als je 'm de camper in tilt.
