Motor, speed, and regulations

The 250W motor with 32Nm torque and torque sensor assists smoothly up to 25 km/h, after which you pedal on your own. With the Shimano 7-speed gears, you’ll find the right cadence on flat or uphill terrain, even with the smaller wheels. There is no throttle to ride without pedaling, so the X counts as a regular electric bike: no license, registration, or helmet required. We advise against tuning it up. That puts you outside the legal category, the bike isn’t built for it, your warranty will be voided, and you gain little benefit in daily use.

Tires, brakes, and riding feel

On the 20-inch CST tires, you roll more stably than the small wheel size suggests, and the suspension fork absorbs bumps and jolts. Front and rear disc brakes bring you to a quick and even stop, even when it’s wet. The ergonomic Velo saddle makes longer rides more comfortable, so you won’t start shifting around after a few kilometers. Small wheels steer a bit more directly than large ones, which you get used to quickly and is actually handy in busy traffic. An IP54 rating means a rain shower on the way is no problem.

The X suits commuters who combine cycling with train, car, or camper and want to store it compactly but still ride smoothly. Great if you have little space at home or work and don’t want the bike in the way. To be honest: because of the battery and frame, it weighs more than a simple folding bike, so daily lifting on and off requires some muscle strength. If you’re purely looking for the lightest foldable bike, this isn’t the lightest, but it is one of the smoothest riders in its class.
