Is the Basic D7 legal?
Yes. The Basic D7 only assists you when you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it just an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the Basic D7 go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The Basic D7 supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: once you modify an e-bike to go faster, it is legally considered a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the Basic D7?
No. Because the Basic D7 supports up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. A bike insurance against theft or damage is smart, but that is up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the Basic D7?
There is no legal minimum age for an electric bike like the Basic D7 in the Netherlands. Anyone can ride it, and wearing a helmet is not mandatory.
What warranty do I get on the Basic D7?
You get a 3-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

Puch Basic D7 at GOfatbike

The Puch Basic D7 is an electric city bike for those looking for a pleasant, simple bike for daily rides. Think of commuting to work, school, or a quick trip to the store. You sit upright, the motor assists as soon as you start pedaling, and the controls remain straightforward. The Basic D7 is an accessible entry-level model within the Puch range, reflected in its no-nonsense design without sacrificing comfort. In this guide, we’ll walk through what the bike offers, who it suits, and what to consider before choosing.

Frame and Entry

The frame of the Basic D7 is designed with daily use in mind. At Puch, you usually choose between a low-step version and a model with a higher bar, so you can pick a frame that fits your height and preferred mounting style. A low step makes it easier to swing your leg over, handy if you often stop at traffic lights or crossings. Before ordering, check the available frame sizes. This way, you’ll be comfortable right away and won’t have to struggle to get on the saddle.

Seating and Comfort

On the Basic D7, you sit upright, with the handlebars close and your hands resting comfortably on the grips. This posture is nice for longer rides or frequent city cycling because it gives you a good view of traffic. The saddle is wide and padded, which helps on longer trips. A bike like this usually comes with lights, fenders, and a luggage rack, so you can carry bags or a crate. Check the version you choose, as details sometimes vary depending on the frame and battery option.

Range and Battery

The battery is removable, so you can charge it indoors without having to carry the whole bike. How far you can go on a single charge depends on many factors. Your weight, the wind, how much assistance you use, and whether your route is flat or full of bridges and traffic lights. So don’t count on a fixed number, but on a range that varies per ride. If you mostly ride short distances, you’ll charge less often than you might think. If you want certainty for longer trips, choose a larger battery if available for this model.

Motor, gears, and regulations

The Basic D7 has a 250-watt motor that supports you up to 25 kilometers per hour. You pedal yourself, the motor only assists, and there is no throttle. This means the bike counts as a regular electric bike. You don’t need a driver’s license, registration, or insurance, and there is no helmet requirement. The D7 stands for seven gears with a derailleur, meaning a chain gear system. Convenient if you go from flat terrain to a climb or want to pick up speed again. Don’t increase the motor’s power. Then you fall outside the legal category, while brakes and frame are not designed for that and your warranty will be void.

Who is this model for

The Basic D7 suits those who want a practical, comfortable city bike without unnecessary extras. Commuting, grocery shopping, a weekend ride—this bike feels at home there. The low step-through and upright seating make it suitable for beginners and those who take it easy. To be honest, if you’re looking for a sporty, forward-leaning bike or like to take corners fast, you’re better off with another type. For calm rides through city and village, this is a great starting point.

Ordering at GOfatbike

If you’re still unsure, pay close attention to the frame size, step-through height, and the battery you need. The Basic D7 comes in various versions, so there’s usually a variant that fits you. Also, read the experiences of customers who already ride the bike; that gives an honest picture of daily use. The Puch Basic D7 is available to order at GOfatbike.
