A BMS system monitors the battery and prevents deep discharge, and you can remove the battery to charge it indoors.

Motor, gears, and controls

In the middle of the frame is a Bafang M420 mid-drive motor with 250W and 80Nm torque. A torque sensor detects how hard you pedal and adjusts the assistance accordingly, making it feel like regular cycling. Shifting is done with a Shimano Nexus hub with seven gears, low maintenance and smooth. The motor assists up to 25 kilometers per hour and there is no throttle, so this counts as a regular electric bike: no license, registration, or helmet required. We advise against tuning it up, as that would take the bike out of this category and the brakes are not designed for that.

Brakes, safety, and equipment

Hydraulic Tektro disc brakes are fitted front and rear, which make a difference when the cargo box is loaded and also grip evenly when wet. Automatic LED lights front and rear and reflective stripes on the tires keep you visible. The aluminum frame and double-walled aluminum rims provide a sturdy base, and on the LCD color display you can read speed, battery level, and assistance. A ring lock and a separate lock on the battery come standard. A traditional handlebar provides a familiar, upright riding position.
