Is the LON legal?
Yes. The LON only assists you if you pedal yourself and stops at 25 km/h, with a 250W motor and no throttle. This makes it just an electric bike, not a moped. So you are allowed to ride it anywhere you can ride a regular bike.
How fast does the LON go, and am I allowed to increase its speed?
The LON supports speeds up to 25 km/h. Faster is not allowed: as soon as you tune a fatbike, it legally counts as a moped. You are then required to have insurance, a license plate, and a helmet, and your warranty becomes void. With our bikes, you ride safely within the rules.
Do I need a driver's license, insurance, or registration for the LON?
No. Because the LON supports up to 25 km/h, it counts as a regular bike. No driver's license, no license plate, no mandatory insurance. However, bike insurance against theft or damage is a smart idea, but that’s up to you.
From what age are you allowed to ride the LON?
There is no legal minimum age for an electric bike like the LON in the Netherlands. Anyone can ride it, and a helmet is not mandatory.
How far can you go with the LON on a single battery charge?
With the LON, you can ride about 80 km on a full battery. The exact distance depends on your speed, your weight, how much assistance you use, and the wind.
What warranty do I get on the LON?
You get a 3-year warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts. If something breaks during that period due to a manufacturing defect, we will take care of it for you.

The LON’s frame has a deep, low step-through, so you can get on and off without lifting your leg high. This is especially helpful if you stop and start often or just want a comfortable way to get on and off. You sit upright with a relaxed posture for your back and shoulders. This is nice for calm rides through the city and longer trips. If you prefer a sporty, forward-leaning riding position, a model with a higher frame will suit you better.

Range and battery

The LON runs on a Samsung 48V 20Ah battery. On paper, this gives you a substantial range, but consider the stated distance as a guideline, not a guarantee of kilometers. How far you actually go depends on your weight, the wind, the level of assistance you choose, and the surface you ride on. If you ride a lot with the highest assistance or against the wind, the battery will drain faster. Fully charging takes about four to six hours, depending on how empty the battery is.

Motor, speed, and regulations

The LON features a centrally placed 250W ANANDA motor. It only assists when you pedal yourself and supports up to 25 km/h, after which you pedal on your own power. There is no throttle, so you keep pedaling. With this setup, the LON is considered a regular electric bike, which means you don’t need a license, registration, or helmet. Do not modify the bike to go faster: doing so voids the regular e-bike status and your warranty. The motor is centrally located in the frame, ensuring even weight distribution.

Tires, brakes, and riding experience

The wide tires provide grip and stability on the road and perform well on sand, grass, and unpaved paths. Braking is done with hydraulic disc brakes, which are reliable even in wet conditions. For gears, KNAAP uses a Shimano 7-speed, allowing easy shifting on flat terrain and climbs. Lighting is front and rear, with an LCD display and a USB port on the handlebar. Keep in mind that a fatbike with a battery is quite heavy, which you’ll notice when lifting or storing it.
